Metallica donated $75,000 to Feeding America to support Texans impacted by last month's disastrous winter storms. The band's All Within My Hands non-profit provided the donation to make sure that food banks in communities impacted by the February blizzards in the South that left millions without power and safe drinking water for weeks could get much-needed aid to those in need of food and supplies.
"The winter storm that struck Texas last month was beyond anything the state’s residents could imagine preparing for," the band said in a statement. "As temperatures dropped well below freezing and widespread power outages swept the area, families suffered. Grocery chains did the best they could to support their communities, but their supply was hit hard. While temperatures have risen and electricity has been restored in many areas, residents are still very much in the throws of a struggle."
According to KXAN, as of this week hundreds of Central Texas residents were still without water almost two weeks after the storms. At its peak, the weather left nearly three million homes and businesses in the Lone Star state without power, leading to boil-water notices and pleas to reduce electricity usage to ensure the state's strained power grid did not suffer further failures.
